Families Who Use UW Health And Have BCBS Insurance or Forward Health in WI

You may have received a letter from UW Health informing you that Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and UW have not yet reached an agreement. As a result, your BCBS coverage may end if an agreement is not reached by July 1, 2025 (the extension date the contract is currently set to expire). This uncertainty is incredibly frustrating, especially for those who rely on UW Health specialists for rare disease care, where alternative providers may be limited or nonexistent.

Access to the right care is critical. While there are no changes to coverage at this time and hopefully this will be resolved soon, July 1 is on the horizon. If you or your family members depend on UW Health for specialized treatment, now is the time to make your voice heard. We are Lived Experience Experts in our conditions, and we have the power to advocate for the care we need.

Key Talking Points

  • UW Health provides specialized care that many families cannot replace elsewhere locally.
  • Disrupting ongoing treatment can have serious health consequences.
  • The financial burden of out-of-network costs is unsustainable for many families.
  • Patients and families deserve stability in their healthcare access.

What You Can Do to Raise Your Voice

Our voices matter. By taking action, we can remind both BCBS and UW Health that patients and families cannot be left behind in these negotiations.

Contact BCBS – Urge them to come to an agreement with UW health and prioritize patient care.
*Anthem members may contact Anthem’s Member Service Center through the Sydney Health app or by calling the number on their ID card.
*Out-of-state BCBS plan members accessing care in WI through the Blue Card program should contact their plan.

Contact UW Health – Ask them to remain committed to reaching an agreement with BCBS.

Call Your Employer – Ask them to prioritize ensuring that BCBS continues to work toward an agreement with UW health.
